چکیده

Legionella pneumophila (L. pneumophila) is the causative agent of Legionnaires’ disease and Pontiac fever, collectively known as legionellosis. L. infection occurs through inhalation contaminated aerosols from water systems in workplaces institutions. The development disinfectants that can eliminate such without evacuating people needed to prevent spread pneumophila. Photocatalysts are attractive do not harm human health. In particular, TiO2 photocatalyst kills under various conditions, but its mode action unknown. Here, we confirmed high performance containing PtO2 via degradation methylene blue (half-value period: 19.2 min) bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli 15.1 water. Using transmission electron microscopy, demonstrate disinfection 6.7 by accompanied remarkable cellular membrane internal damage Assays with limulus amebocyte lysate silver staining showed release endotoxin due photocatalytic this endotoxin. This first study mechanisms photocatalyst, namely, morphological changes Our results suggest might be effective controlling

Legionella pneumophila: an aquatic microbe goes astray.

Legionella pneumophila is naturally found in fresh water were the bacteria parasitize within protozoa. It also survives planctonically in water or biofilms. Upon aerosol formation via man-made water systems, L. pneumophila can enter the human lung and cause a severe form of pneumonia, called Legionnaires' disease. The pathogenesis of Legionnaires' disease is largely due to the ability of L. pne...

Influence of aquatic microorganisms on Legionella pneumophila survival.

The ability of aquatic bacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens SSD (Ps-D) and Pseudomonas putida SSC (Ps-C) to support the persistence of Legionella pneumophila (Lp-1) in an artificial water microcosm was investigated for 42 day, at two different incubation temperatures. At 4 degrees C, individually suspended Lp-1 was no longer detectable just after 24 hours, while in co-cultures with Pseudomonas, Lp1...

Characteristics of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 2 strains by colony morphology.

The isolation rate of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 2 from clinical samples is low. In 2007, we encountered the second case known to occur in Japan. As the L. pneumophila serogroup 2 type strain, the Kobe strain isolated in 1988, and the Okinawa strain isolated from the present patient could not be differentiated using the usual biochemical and serological tests, we tried to achieve differen...

Investigation of Legionella Pneumophila bacteria in hospital water supply systems

Introduction: Legionella Pneumophila bacteria is known as one of the most important nosocomial infections and the most common cause of death in patients. This study was aimed to identify Legionella Pneumophila bacteria in hospital water supply systems. Material and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed to identify Legionella pneumophila in hot and cold-water systems of i...

Ultrastructure of Legionella pneumophila.

Eleven lung samples positive for Legionnaires' disease, 12 strains of Legionella pneumophila cultured on various bacteriological media, and one strain growth in the yolk sac of fertile hens' eggs were examined by negative staining, thin sectioning, and scanning electron microscopy. All organisms studied were ultrastructurally similar irrespective of strain, source, or method of cultivation, pre...
